Part 3 : Our Ficus now has its leaves back and ready to shine !
I'm going to miss this guy, but this is going to light a fire under me to make sure to make more videos! I'm sorry for the inappropriate product placement. I worked on fuzzing out the logos for 2 hours, only to have my ham fingers erase all my work on this new program I know nothing about. I was so annoyed I just posted it. Its not like its going to demonetize money I've never gotten from this or any platform anyway. I figured the content was better then not posting for another 8 months, so here you go! And again, thank you to the new owner of this beautiful tree. It'll enjoy it there almost as much as here .

This is a Club Demo I did for Palm Coast Garden Club on the initial styling and care for a willow leaf ficus. Since they are not meeting in person because of the pandemic, this is a great way for them to interact and possibly generate some revenue for the club for future projects since they are raffling off this exact tree. I charged a nominal fee, I added sales tax since they are in Florida, a...

Junipers are a pain in the ass.
Excellent video!!! I’m in Miami and just acquired my first two Dwarf Black Olives, and I would like to ask how late during the spring can you repot these? (I wish to replace the nursery soil for Shohin grade on both before the summer gets here). Thanks 😊
I repot black olive all summer. From April 15th to Sept 1st for black olives in central Florida
I’m from east central Florida in Indialantic. Would love to know more from someone in the same weather conditions. Could use a mentor. :)
hi! do you sell bonsai at your nursery? I live in orlando about an hour away and I was wondering if I could drive down. I have never grown a bonsai but I have grown a few inorganic only substrate cacti. I would love to pick your brain and get some tips for keeping them healthy too
Yes we do. We actually have one of the largest bonsai nurseries in Florida
@@SchleysBonsai that is awesome! I will take a trip out there in the new year! thank you!
Wait you have to take it out the sun to help it recover
Hey is there anyway I can do a consultation with you
It’s probably my fault but I remember watching your videos 5or 6 years ago. Good to see you back. Cheers from Ojai California
This is my first video of yours. The whip sound effects had me laughing......hard, thanks : )
Had the pleasure to see this beast in person the other day and i will say even the nicest cameras can only really do so much justice, true work of art no doubt!!!
Awesome willow leaf shohin!!
I recently acquired a ficus microcarpa that is desperate for a repotting due to excessive root mass and poor soil. I always thought they should be repotted in the spring. Is it possible to repot in October as you have if the tree is overwintered indoors?
Its always better to only repot tropicals in the summer, when nights are above 60f. This was done at the very beginning of Oct, and i was more careful with roots than i would have been earlier in the year, but I won't repot any more tropicals this year as it's too late. If you're in south Florida or in the tropics you can, but if drainage is OK, I'd wait till next late spring/ summer to repot. If drainage is bad, I'd pull out of pot, lightly untangle perimeter roots, then slip pot into a bigger pot to the appropriate time to work the roots
Visited y’all a few years back and bought a Brazilian Rain tree. Really enjoyed your selection and hope to get back soon. Thanks for sharing
👍👌
Huge improvement on previous videos. Jason looks like he's getting more comfortable on camera. Can't wait to see more of these!
Thanks for the positive feedback!
So these can't be left by a window?
In Texas where it is 110 septillion degrees outside if that helps you give me advice
Not if you want them to live and thrive, no
@@SchleysBonsai ok what about the ficus retusa variety?
@@thatsignorant1729 you can grow many tropical trees indoors long term well, providing you give them the correct lighting, watering schedule, and fertilizer.
Awesome thank you

Jason, This was really helpful.... really! Thank you very much for sharing this information!
Hello Jason, can I ask what the fertiliser was that you mentioned at 5:40 please, along with Bio Gold?
We use Suncote here in florida due to the hot weather. There are a few brands of granule fertilizer that work well though. Davidsons, Nutri-cote, and Osmocote are some examples I know people use, although I haven't used all of those myself. Just make sure its labeled for container use. fertilizer can burn your tree badly if not used correctly.
Thanks for the reply Jason and thanks also for all the help and advice. Really appreciated.
That is a bonsai tree just because it isn't attractive
Should I put my Juniper i shade if I over watered it?
no, just let it dry out a bit before you water again. you shouldn't be able to overwater a tree in bonsai soil as the excess just drains out. The issue is if you water too many times during the day, particularly in the winter months or during dormant stages of growth.
Que bueno👍👍👍👍
Hello Jason, thank you for sharing this really helpful video. When repotting a Juniper from a garden centre pot, can I ask if it is safe to remove all the old soil or do I need to leave most of the root ball intact please? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
To be honest this tree was ugly… hope you will post an “after to see the later results!
You mentioned using inorganic soil for repotting...ive seen a few videos that described organic as the best for development. I just received a baby juniper from a nursery. I was considering repotting it this weekend into a bigger development pot coupled with organic soil. My main goal for this summer is to let it grow and thicken. What would you recommend as far as soil and fertilizer for development purposes? Also, will it hurt to repot right now in Alabama? Its starting to get warmer but it wont be sweltering for another month or so.
I'm not exactly sure where in Alabama you live, but you can get a hold of a local bonsai nursery to see what your local repotting schedule is. If im trying to get a juniper trunk as large as possible and as fast as possible, it goes into the ground or in raised beds, fertilized aggressively and mulched, and have a multi year plan for the tree, without trimming foliage to also help thicken tree. Or, at a lesser rate, you can grow in a training box or over sized trainer. I still use bonsai soil in that case for more control and better root efficiency with better control of fertilizer and moisture. You could add pumice or I've added course sand blaster sand if cost is a factor, but bonsai soil is best for long term growing as organics break down after a couple years, even in a bigger trainer pot .
@@SchleysBonsai thank you!
I'm pretty new to this picked up some of your soil mix for my first repotting and I'm just wondering if I'm meant to mix it with compost or just that straight mix.
Straight mix if its in a bonsai pot

Thanks Dubsy. Day to day operations easily become week after week, year after year.
I learned the hard way junipers won’t grow indoors. I even used grow lights. It did absolutely no good. They were crispy a dead within 4 months.
Good stuff!! Wish I had a local resource like you Sir!
You got a updated video on this would love to see it..
im going to post a drone video of the nusery soon. We still have 2 of these from the dozens we collected 11 years ago, but they are in bonsai pots and dont look like this anymore. I need to get back out there and collect, but I move a bit slower than before and finding a private property to collect was a rare blessing indeed. lol
